CAC Mission Statement:
To do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8)
Mission
The Community Mission of the United Church in Tallahassee is to be instruments of God’s peace, bearers of God’s love and advocates for God’s justice to all those in our immediate and larger communities who are deprived of those sacred rights. As a statement of our faith, the Community Action Committee shall model, lead, and challenge ourselves and others in this congregation and beyond to take action toward justice and healing.
Ministry
The Community Action Committee will assist all UCT members to accomplish the mission by:
- providing information relevant to discern mission priorities;
- helping to organize the activities and initiatives that give the mission form;
- invigorating and empowering our members to share their resources in meeting the needs of our local and global communities.
In these ways, the CAC and the larger church will witness the compassion and vitality that Jesus brings to our world.
Duties
The Community Action Committee shall be responsible for the community action initiatives of church in both funding and action, and the duties of the committee include:
- Planning activities to bring awareness about global and local issues that require action;
- Keeping the congregation up-to-date on organizations that UCT funds and issues of concern through Mission Foci;
- Scheduling Mission Foci each month;
- Scheduling and organizing annual UCC offerings;
- Funding both justice and charity organizations in our annual budget;
- Maintaining the Community Action page(s) in the Gatherings each month;
- Proposing a budget to the Finance Committee each year, which is equal to 10% of the operating budget or a “tithe” of the budget.
Vision
It is God’s vision our world that we are trying to understand and to bring to life. The CAC’s vision is a model an image of how our church will realize that task, respecting and sharing the diverse but complementary gifts to all its members.
